C Squadron North Irish Horse

 

C Squadron served in France from 22 August 1914. No diary has been located for the period to June 1915 (if indeed one was kept), and none was kept for the period July to September 1915. Shown below is the diary for the period 1 October 1915 to 30 June 1916.

In the first months of the war C Squadron operated as divisional cavalry squadron to the 5th Division, then as Corps Headquarters cavalry. From 14 April 1915 to 9 May 1916 it served as divisional cavalry squadron to the 3rd Division, from 10 to 31 May 1916 the 49th (West Riding) Division, and from 1 to 20 June 1916 the 36th (Ulster) Division. On 21 June 1916 C Squadron joined B Squadron of the North Irish Horse and the Service Squadron of the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons to form the 2nd North Irish Horse Regiment.
